Here’s what’s happening in September with Troop 166!

Hope everybody had a great Labor Day weekend. We’ve got a packed agenda in September with the troop!

Monday, September 4 — no meeting tonight, due to Labor Day

Friday, September 8 – Saturday, September 9 Service Hours @ Bexley Community Camp Out
This is the sixth year of the Community Campout in the meadow behind Jeffrey Mansion. It is one of the Recreation Department’s most popular events.  Scouts and Adults help families set up their tents and provide directions and assistance. We supervise the evening campfires and assist in serving meals. Everyone sleeps in tents overnight and we help cleanup up in the morning. We need Scouts to provide assistance and Adults to supervise.  Service Hours for Scouts.

Arrive around 4:30 pm on Friday. Stay until clean up is done on Saturday, around 11 am.

Bring a tent if you have one. Class “A” uniform, please. If you have to arrive late or leave early, please note that on the sign up.

Saturday, September 9 – Sunday, September 10: Simon Kenton adult Canoe Clinic

Just a reminder for those adults planning on attending 2018 Northern Tier who coordinated with Mr. Nakasako to attend this clinic.

Monday, September 11, 7:30 – 9 pm. Court of Honor @ church

Tonight’s Scout meeting is a Court of Honor in which we celebrate the many achievements of the individual scouts and the troop. Scouts are required to wear their Class A uniforms, and their Order of the Arrow sash if they are members. Family and extended family are invited too — please bring a dessert to be shared.

We hope to see you there!

Saturday, September 162 – 6 pm. Popcorn Sale slots at Bexley Library and CVS
The troop will be participating in the popcorn sale this year, which begins on September 16th.  More information will be available at the September 11thmeeting about individual sales.  We will also have the opportunity for scouts to earn additional money for their scout accounts through selling popcorn at CVS and at the Bexley Public Library.

Sales will take place on Saturday September 16th and Saturday September 23rd from 2pm – 6 pm each day.  Please sign up for a two hour shift either/both dates.  We would like to have two adults at each site as well to supervise.  We will have the popcorn available to sell on site with payment collected at that time.  For the first shift each day, all will meet at CVS for instructions at 2pmand then take popcorn over to the sidewalk in front of the library.

Based on the sales level for each day, we will calculate the total popcorn sold per hour and apply that to each scout’s total sales for each hour they work.  Of the total popcorn sales (their individual calculated amount plus their own individual sales) one-third of the sales total will be applied to their Scout Account!  Any questions, email Jennifer Osburn at jenny_osburn@yahoo.com.

Monday, September 25, 7:30 – 9 pm. Scout meeting @ church, Board of Review, plus Senior Patrol Leader elections and appointments

Today’s meeting will be used to elect the Senior Patrol Leader as well as appoint those into other Key leadership positions. Scouts should be sure to attend if you are seeking one of these roles, and be prepared to give a brief speech regarding your qualifications for your desired position.

The Board of Review takes place every month, and it allows those Scouts who have completed all their other rank requirements to complete a final review with uniformed adults to earn their rank.

Friday, September 29, 6 pm – Sunday, October 1, 4 pm. Canoe Camp Out!
This year’s canoe camp out will take place at the end of the month. We will travel to Camp Oyo on Friday night where we can get outfitted, shuttle half the vehicles (and all the Scouts and Adults) to Piketon to launch into the Scioto on Saturday morning, and head down towards Portsmouth. On Sunday between noon and 2 pm, we will exit the river and head back to Columbus, picking up the remaining cars in Piketon on the way home.

For this trip, Camp Oyo will provide tents, canoes, and food. Scouts and Adults need to bring personal gear (including sleeping bags, pads, and mess kits) along with clothes that can get wet (swim suits, water shoes, short sleeve shirt, fleece top, hat, sunscreen). Please only those Scouts classified Swimmer for this trip. If you did not get an opportunity to complete your Swimmer classification at summer camp, contact Mr. Czaja ASAP.

Adults, please plan on attending and driving for this trip. We will need more vehicles than usual so we can use half the cars to get to from Oyo the departure point on Saturday morning, and the other half to collect everybody at the exit point on Sunday afternoon.

Cost is being finalized but is estimated to be $70-75/person.
