Canoeing Outing Friday, Sept. 19

On Friday, Sept. 19, we’ll meet at the Church at 6 PM for our September outing, Canoeing the Scioto. We’ll get underway as soon as possible than travel to Camp Oyo, near Portsmouth, OH where we will spend the night. In the morning, we’ll have breakfast and be taken back upriver to Piketon, OH where we will put in to the water and canoe . We’ll stop for lunch along the river and in the late afternoon we’ll pitch camp along the Scioto. In the morning we’ll have breakfast and continue the remaining distant down the Scioto to it’s confluence with the Ohio River. The folks from Camp Oyo will pick us up and return us to our vehicles and we’ll drive back to Bexley, returning about noon.

This is the same route with the same outfitter that we used a couple of years ago and it was a great trip.

The cost for the outing is $65. We need a minimum of 8 participants (Scouts and Adults). The deadline for us to make the commitment to the outfitter is two weeks in advance of the date of the trip – Sept. 5th.

Some reminders:

  • We travel to and from outing in Class “A”  uniforms (shirts, belt, pants and socks)
  • Eat dinner before arriving at the Church on Friday
  • We’ll be tent camping, but the outfitter will provided the tents
  • Participants need a sleeping bag and mat, bowl, cup and fork, changes of clothes and shoes, and personal gear.
  • I say again, bring extra clothes and shoes
  • Gear that needs to stay dry (sleeping bag, for example) need to be in two trash bags or “dry bags”
  • Do not bring phones or electronics. Adults will have cell phones for emergencies
  • Do not bring food or shacks. Food will be provided by the outfitter. Exceptions need to be discussed with an Adult leader
  • Dress for the weather. In September, it can be hot and it can be cold. It often rains. We will be out of doors all day on Saturday.
We will need adults to drive and to travel with us on the trip. Please signup here:
