On Friday, March 28 we will gather at the Church at 6 PM and get underway as soon as we are packed up and ready to go, We will drive to Camp Falling Rock just north of Newark (a little less than and hour away) and stay in the lower level of the fabulous Sequoia Lodge in the lower (back, Winter entrance, North) portion of Camp Falling Rock. The Scouts will have a snack and then spend the night in the cabin.

On Saturday after breakfast and cleanup the Scouts will spend much of the day playing a map and compass-based game of hide and seek called Cat and Mouse. It is one of the Scout’s favorite activities and was voted as one of the most popular ones when planning for this year’s outings. Scouts will decide about how lunch will be done, but it is likely they will have lunch and then cleanup at the cabin. The afternoon may provide another round of Cat and Mouse or may provide an opportunity for Scouts to work on skills for requirements and advancement. The Scouts will cook dinner and cleanup and then spend the night in the cabin.

On Sunday morning, we will have breakfast and then cleanup, pickup and plan to leave Camp Falling Rock for a return back to the Church at about 11 AM.

Scouts and adults should have dinner prior to arriving at the Church on Friday.

The Scout handbook provides wonderful guidance about what to bring on an outing. We will be cabin camping so we don’t need tents, but watch the weather forecasts and dress for the weather. We will be outside most all day on Saturday. The cabin is heated and we’ll be sleeping on bunks, but everyone will need a sleeping bag. Scouts and adults will need a mess kit (bowl, fork and cup), a change of clothes and personal gear (toiletries, flashlight, etc.)

Only the Scout(s) designated as cooks should bring food. Don’t bring snacks or candy. Scouts cook and eat together.

We travel to and from outings in Class “A” uniform (shirts, pants, belt and socks).
Scouts should bring their Boy Scout handbook.

Cell phone and other electronics should be left at home. They are not needed, they get lost and damaged in the outdoors and there are plenty of other things to do. Adults have cell phones for emergencies.

This is an ideal outing for folks who “don’t like camping” as we are in a warm dry cabin sleeping on bunk beds with indoor plumbing and running water. There are a limited number of spots available, so sign up now at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040E4CADA62EAB9-march. Cost for Scouts is $20. Adults divide the cost of the adult food after the outing.

We will need adults to drive and to supervise the group. Adults can signup at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040E4CADA62EAB9-march also.

As always, please let me know if there are questions or concerns.

Mr. Fulton
